The ADA's Council on Dental Education and Licensure defines the term "Board Eligible" as the status of any doctor who has completed an ADA accredited program in orthodontics.
To be eligible to participate in the ABO certification process an orthodontist must be a graduate of an ADA accredited program in orthodontics.
The term "board eligible" has no official meaning to the ABO. It is only a status that allows the orthodontist to apply and take the examinations of the American Board of Orthodontics to seek certification. An orthodontist may not use this term as a designator of ABO status.
